Kenya 7s players are paid depending on the number of tournaments that a player has participated in.
experienced players who have played in key tournaments earn more compared to first timers who are only starting.
As of 2016/2017 HSBC World Sevens Series, those who have played 0-15 tournaments earned Ksh100, 000 per month before 35% tax.
A tournament is counted as a single leg in the World Sevens series, which normally has 10 tournaments in a single full season.
And as such, players who have played15-29 caps tournaments take home Sh115, 000 per month, while those who have 30-44 caps take home Sh140, 000 per month before tax.
There are part-time players who are normally on contracts, and each earns Sh50,000.
Kenya Simbas
This is the larger version of the sevens.
The team only trains in June and November when they prepare for international matches. It is for this reason that the team is paid Sh2, 000 per session.
The team can have up to 6 sessions in a single week.
In addition, the players will earn Sh10,000 for any match they participate in, and will always get an extra 10,000 if they win a match.
Whenever the team goes out of town, the players are paid Sh15,000. if they win any match
