Only five bags of maize were destroyed following a fire incident that was reported at one of the maize dryers at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Eldoret depot.
According to the NCPB Eldoret Director Silas Magut, the fire didn't cause substantial damage.
Speaking to the press at the depot on Thursday, Magut said normal operations of receiving maize will not be affected by the incident that had caused panic among farmers.
"No millions worth of property were destroyed as it had been earlier been a notion among locals. It was a minor issue and won't affect in any way an ongoing exercise of purchase maize from farmers," Magut said.
"Only about five 90kg bags of maize were destroyed after motor of the dryer burst causing the fire which was contained in time," he added.
Already engineers are on site of the incident as they work to repair the damaged part of the drier.
"We still have one dryer operating and we are working the best we can to restore services to the other damaged drier but everything will go as usual," said the director.
