Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i overstepped his mandate as student by regularly beating his colleague students, reports the Sunday Standard.
So stubborn that he was, his teacher recalls, that students feared seeing him around in kitchen where he served as prefect at Kiabonyoru High School.
"He could walk around and cane anyone who was on the wrong side of school rules just like a teacher," recalls Livingstone Okwoyo, his former English teacher.
Okwoyo, who still teaches in the institution adds: "Whenever he was in front of the kitchen, no one would dare break rules."
True to his character, Matiang'i has been one of the greatest performing minister in President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime at least by enforcing policies.
In fact, his long stay at the education ministry will go down to history as the time Kenya drastically dealt with cases of examination cheating.
