Brookside Diary has revealed why it has reduced the prices for raw milk paid to farmers by Sh2.
The Ruiru-based firm, which has also slashed the prices of all its brands by Sh10 per litre, said it has made the changes due to over-supply of milk in the last quarter of 2017.
Brookside Dairy Milk Procurement Director John Gethi said this was normal as supply increases during the rains while it plummets in dry seasons.
"The milk value chain is responding to the usual market forces of demand and supply. The current situation shall remain as long as the prevailing market dynamics remain in force," he said on Tuesday.
Gethi also said that despite the increased production, the largest milk processor in the country has renewed contracts for all its 160,000 farmers.
"We pioneered the use of milk supply contracts to guarantee farmers a reliable market for their milk throughout the year," he noted.
The company procures 1.5 million of litres of milk each day from farmers it has grouped in 300 diaries across the country where it collects the milk from.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kiambu that you want Hivisasa to cover?
