Strained relationship and persistent attacks on Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga were among the reasons why Deputy President William Ruto was heckled in Kisumu, reveals Millie Odhiambo.
While Odinga maintains that he has nothing against Ruto, the DP had a day to forget on Wednesday when angry locals interrupted his speech periodically in front of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
And Ms Odhiambo who doubles as Mbita MP says Nyanza residents could be holding grudge against the DP over his continuous outbursts on Odinga.
“I do not think anyone planned violence or the heckling of Ruto. I am convinced that he is his own enemy based on his continuous outburst on Odinga.
“Kisumu people are very receptive and I think they accorded the president what he needed. Maybe Ruto has to find a way of reconciling with them,” she said.
Prior to the tour, Homabay senator Moses Kajwang had warned that locals would not allow the DP to tour the region.
In 2007, Ruto worked with Odinga and was appointed to cabinet in the grand coalition government before he bolted own.
