Ex-Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto’s decision to ditch opposition NASA was strategic rather than personal, says Gideon Mamboleo.

To the surprise of many Kenyans, Rutto, a fierce critic of Jubilee regime, buried a hatchet and promised to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

And Mamboleo says the move was guided by dynamics in local politics and his zeal to be party of Kalenjin politics in many years to come.

“He tested his ability and found William Rutto was still kingpin. He has no option other than work with him to be relevant,” he says.

“This is also strategic given that he is ambitious and may want still to dominate South Rift politics. A stay in NASA would have been problematic in terms of bouncing back,” he further says.

Along with outspoken Emurua Dikir MP Johanna Ng’eno, the two pledged to work with Jubilee party in the October elections.
