Intimidation of various agents allied to CCM, arbitrary detention of his supporters and subsequent barring of his perceived diehards from accessing polling stations contributed to decision by Isaac Rutto to lose hope before counting started.

The outspoken former Bomet Governor lost to Joyce Laboso, who until his election served as Sotik MP and Deputy Speaker of National Assembly.

In his first media address on Monday, Rutto said he was not satisfied with results but would only work to ensure locals accept the new leadership and move on.

“What I saw was unimaginable. My agents were harassed and some arrested by authorities and these are clear irregularities,” he told KTN news.

“I am dissatisfied with results and that is why I went to sleep early because of the magnitude of fraud I saw. I was openly rigged but life must go on.”

On whether he had bolted out of NASA, he maintained that he was still keen to work with the opposition coalition hence dispelling rumours that he was warming up for Jubilee.
