Kisii County Governor James Ongwae on Thursday revealed why the county has embarked on kicking out hawkers from streets and roads in the town.
The county boss stated that all hawkers will be moved from the streets and along the roads to ease congestion in the town during the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association, KICOSCA/ County Assemblies Sports Association, CASA games.
The games are slated to take place from 12th August, 2018.
“Kisii County will host the 6th edition of the KICOSCA/CASA games as from 12th August, 2018 and therefore, unnecessary congestion along the roads and streets entering and leaving the town will not be condoned. Hawkers are advised to operate from designated areas failure to which they will be evicted,” he said.
He challenged business owners especially those owning food joints to stock a lot because the visitors will be eating from the hotels within town.
“We expect a ripple effect on our economy for the period before, during and after the games. Business owners must have enough stock to sell to the high population since we expect to have more visitors," he said.
He also asked security officers to ensure that security is beefed.
Already, the county has started preparing for the matches.
