Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have skipped President Uhuru Kenyatta's inauguration at Kasarani Stadium due to insecurity concerns, reports the Times of Israel.

Netanyahu, who had confirmed attendance, was scheduled to land in Nairobi on Tuesday morning before proceeding to Kasarani for Uhuru's inauguration.

"The event may turn violent due to opposition's planned parallel inauguration thus the change of plans by the PM," a source told the leading Jerusalem paper.

A source familiar to Netanyahu's travel plans said due to security concern, Shin Bet security service had not greenlighted for Netanyahu to appear at Kasarani.

Despite his decision to cancel his planned visit at Kasarani, Netanyahu will however attend a smaller event in celebrating Uhuru's victory at undisclosed location in Nairobi.

"He will not be attending part of the day's celebrations but not all of them. It is unlikely he will appear at Kasarani but will later attend a small celebration later on," said the paper.

On Tuesday morning, a convoy on Israeli number plates was seen speeding off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to undisclosed location.

Although he may have chosen to skip Kasarani event, Netanyahu, whose presence in Kenya still remains unclear, will address at least 10 Heads of State from Africa.
