Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has revealed why together with his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho they have of late minimised public appearances.
Speaking during the Coast People's Assembly convention at Sun 'n' Sand Beach Resort in his county, Kingi said he advised Joho not to focus on engaging in political debates but concentrate on their secession plans.
"I told Joho that secession talk is not going to be based on television shows. We have gone silent because we want to bring forward something tangible when we finish our plans," he said, as quoted by the Nation.
The vocal governor also said they went underground to avoid being targeted by Jubilee administration which has opposed secession calls.
"We know when we start talking about our plans, they will get to know them and frustrate us," he said on Sunday.
Kingi said they have laid out proper mechanisms to push for Coast region to secede, adding that they won't be cowed by threats from government.
"We have already engaged lawyers, both local and international, to pursue this matter. We are engaging in a lawful exercise," the county boss added.
