According to the Governor, the movement is meant for the people and not leaders. “We have deliberately not invited politicians. This is because Maendeleo Chap Chap is a party of the common mwananchi,” he said.

Mutua argued the Maendeleo Chap Chap movement was launched to solve the problems that are likely to hamper the nation’s desire to attain vision 2030. To show that his party was for the people, Mutua brought a couple from his county to testify before the world how his water projects have tackled the problem of this scarce commodity in Ukambani.

Despite being a political event, there were no politicians from the current government. In his speech, Mutua blamed poverty on bureaucracy and tribalism.

“We have a never-ending bureaucracy that is just creating poverty. I hate corruption and we are not poor. We are just being robbed,” said Dr Mutua.

His decision to form a new party came at time when he was facing threats of being left out by Wiper Party.

Mutua claims that Wiper Leaders wanted to deny him a chance to defend his seat because of dancing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tune.
