Kisii Senator Chris Obure omission from Jubilee campaigns in Gusii region was not intentional since he had requested time to launch vigorous campaigns against Governor James Ongwae, MP Richard Tongi has revealed.
Mr. Obure was a surprise omission despite his experience in politics from the list that comprised Charles Nyachae, Joseph Kiangoi, Walter Nyambati, and Joash Maangi among other top leaders from the region.
The Jubilee Party is strategizing to vanquish Orange Democratic Movement party which has been dominant in the region for the last decade.
“Obure requested time to organize his local campaigns so that we rescue Kisii County from opaque administration by Mr. Ongwae. He will however be working with us and probably giving advice where necessary,” said Tong’i in a Tuesday phone call.
“He is instrumental and a mentor of many of us so Jubilee trusts him and we are always ready to work with him. He has won several elections before and we believe that his experience will be fundamental in Jubilee,” he added.
Obure made a surprise move to Jubilee despite having served as a close confidant of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who rewarded him with a ministerial docket during grand coalition government.
