Inability by NASA presidential team to secure Gusii stadium and bitter rivalry between Jubilee campaign and the opposition led to Raila Odinga’s decision to cancel Monday’s tour to Kisii County.

Initially, Odinga had planned to traverse the vote rich county only to withdraw in final minutes after the NASA team lost Kisii stadium to Jubilee.

And possibility of chaos between rival supporters also compelled Odinga to keep off the region, given Kenyatta had managed to secure key venues.

“As NASA, we are very keen and I want to remind us that we are disinterested with political contest with Jubilee,” says Sam Omwando, a key organizer of Odinga’s campaigns.

He adds: “Jubilee thinks that we are interested with chaos and that is why they decided to rally same region where we had planned. We had to move it to the following day.”

For the last four months, the region has witnessed bitter political rivalry between Jubilee and NASA supporters which often leads to chaos.

In 2013, the NASA team managed to scoop more votes than Jubilee and the team is likely to retain the region given opinion polls by various pollsters.
