[Raila Odinga in a past event. He will not be addressing US Congress as widely reported]
ODM leader Raila Odinga cannot address the US Congress because the privilege is a 'preserve of world leaders on a state visit', notes Salim Lone.
Odinga is scheduled to leave the country on Monday evening for US where he will hold an informal meeting with members of the Congress over electoral reforms in Kenya.
"Odinga will have an important meeting in the US Congress but he will not address it," clarified Lone, a former spokesperson during the Odinga's tenure as PM.
He added: "Addressing US Congress is a privilege reserved for world's foreign leaders in an official state visit."
Despite serving as Prime Minister, Odinga has however never served as Head of State even having tried for a record four times.
The trip comes a few days after the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of October polls which Odinga gave a wide berth.
Although he insists that he will not challenge the results in the Supreme Court, Odinga however, says he will revert to civil disobedience to push for fresh polls in 90 days.
