Fresh details have emerged on opposition leader Raila Odinga’s secret visit to the neighbouring Tanzania in the month of May.
A report by Daily Nation reveals that Odinga flew out of the country secretly to the Kigamboni suburbs of Dar es Salaam with full knowledge of President John Magufuli.
Magufuli, who took over from Jakaya Kikwete, is a close ally of Odinga and the two met sometimes in 2016 at the Tanzanian president’s rural home in the interior parts of the country.
But Odinga’s May visit was to inspect a parallel tallying centre that has been put in the neighbouring country to monitor August elections.
“He is on campaign and right now I cannot give further details because it is not necessary,” Spokesperson Dennis Onyango told the Nation.
While no velar indication that the former Prime Minister met Magufuli, it’s however believed that the Tanzanian president will be monitoring Kenyan elections keenly.
Also, another parallel tallying center is said to have been established in Nairobi with another one fully controlled by IT experts also established in Germany-Berlin.
Analysts argue that the August elections provides real chances for Odinga to be president and that could be the reason why he is determined to block any suspicious attempt aimed at rigging votes.
