Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo has come out to explain why leaders of the National Super Alliance (NASA) are not conducting campaigns across the nation ahead of the fresh election scheduled for October 26.
In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke Mutula said that it does not make sense to campaign when the opposition’s demands have not been met.
He insisted that NASA Leaders no longer have confidence in the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The lawmaker argued that they are not sure whether the commission is in a position to conduct free and fair election after bungling the August exercise.
How can they assure us of a credible poll when same people who were in charge of the August 8 election are still in charge? The Senator posed, as quoted by the Local Daily.
The senator also said that the Jubilee side will not compel Raila, a former prime minister to take part in the fresh elections because his name is already on the ballot paper.
“You cannot compel Raila Odinga to participate in an election. His name is already on the ballot paper, he is a registered candidate," he added.
The opposition is calling for the removal of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba among other officials linked to the alleged rigging scheme.
