Governor Mike Sonko felt 'undermined and despised' by a clique of people attached at President Uhuru Kenyatta's Harambee House thus his decision to loudly protest on Saturday.
Despite being in the itinerary of Tree Planting Day as one of the speakers, a one Mr. Wanjohi snubbed the Jubilee governor and instead handed over the programme to Environment CS Keriako Tobiko.
And when Tokibo handed the microphone to DP William Ruto, an agitated Sonko protested as he took over the podium to lecture his tormentors.
"There are some people who are out to undermine me. They are out to intimidate me because they cannot believe that I am the Nairobi governor.
"The programme is very clear, that after the Anthem, I would invite the CS who would later invite the DP. Your Excellency, this is not the first time because you were also undermined in 2013," he said.
In the past, Sonko had accused Interior PS Karanja Kibicho of trying to run the show at City Hall, months after Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe quit office.
And in his speech, Sonko indirectly hit forces at the presidency who are keen to have Nairobi County disbanded.
"Before the county is disbanded, because that cannot happen, allow me to exercise my little powers. Respect is fundamental," he said.
