Protests waged in defense of Chief Justice David Maraga may have informed President Uhuru Kenyatta to skip both Kisii and Nyamira Counties, claims an insider who spoke in confidence.
During the August polls, despite losing marginally in overall tally, Uhuru managed to pull a surprise in Nyamira where he topped with 52 percent.
And with persistent jibes on Maraga following nullification of his victory by the Supreme Court, Uhuru has apparently lost hope in the vote rich region.
“We have talked the issue and he is worried of the protests in defense of Maraga. He is concerned that locals may not vote him and that’s why he is focusing elsewhere,” says the source.
Apparently, Uhuru skipped funeral of former Bomachoge – Borabu MP Joel Onyancha on Friday despite earlier indications that he was going to attend.
Last month, hundreds of protesters buried Uhuru’s effigy in Keroka town with thousands other waging similar protests in Kisii County.
But Jubilee Chief Campaigner Chris Obure dismissed claims that Uhuru was not keen with votes from Gusii adding that he will tour before elections.
“The president has a very busy schedule and he may not reach all places but we are sure he will come before elections.”
