Planned chaos and demonstrations informed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to give funeral of once a close ally, Joel Onyancha, a wide berth on Friday.
Perceived as one of the most experienced Gusii politician, Onyancha died last week over what family members called ‘stroke’.
Against the anticipation of many, Uhuru however, skipped the funeral to engage on other political activities across the country.
“We had intelligence that some boys were planning to disrupt the funeral to embarrass the president,” said a Jubilee official, who spoke in confidence.
“Everything was set for him only NIS to change planned in final hours. But that is expected but he delegated to other officials,” added the source.
For the past one month, Uhuru has been experiencing rebellion from Omogusii community with a number of them accusing him of fixing Chief Justice David Maraga.
Until his death, Onyancha served Bomachoge – Borabu constituency for 15 years before losing to Prof Zedoc Ogutu in 2017.
