President Uhuru Kenyatta will cease being the Head of State and government should IEBC fail to conduct presidential repeat elections within 60 days, preceding the Supreme Court ruling.
With opposition NASA pushing for more reforms within the commission, the electoral body is now facing the unimaginable that could plunge the country to a constitutional crisis.
While the debacle remains unsolved, lawyer James Orengo says President Uhuru Kenyatta will be the causality of the end product.
“We are remaining with very few days and our friends from the other side are taking t casually. We are not going for an election without meaningful changes,” he said.
The Siaya senator added:”Uhuru will cease being president if the timeline expires and we shall appoint a transitional president who definitely will not be him.”
Among the conditions NASA wants acted on is resignation of CEO Ezra Chiloba and quick fixing of the ICT department of the electoral commission.
Over three weeks after the Supreme Court ruling on nullification of presidential elections, IEBC is yet to succumb to the opposition’s pressure.
