Intelligence information on planned demonstration by NASA supporters led to last minute cancellation of a planned tour to Kisii town by Jubilee leadership, a senior part member has revealed.
Initial itinerary showed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto were to land in Kisii town before proceeding to South Mugirango then Kuria but the plans were cancelled.
“They were to land in town but we heard about the planned demonstrations and that is why he cancelled the Kisii town venue,” said the official who spoke in confidence.
The official further said:” Jubilee was not ready for another confrontation and we thought it wise to just go to the main rally.”
Conspicuously, the Head of State aborted the trip only leaving his DP and a few Gusii leaders to campaign in the region widely perceived as a NASA stronghold.
True to the NIS information, chaos rocked Kisii Town as protestors took to streets to call for resignation of Fred Matiang’i, whom they accused of using excessive force to quell opposing demonstrations.
