Political analyst, Emmanuel Khisa has said the Jubilee government and the Nairobi County government has not done enough to solve the ever rising unemployment crisis among the youths in the city.
Khisa said youths between the ages of 15-34 years, who apparently form 35 % of the entire Kenyan population, have the highest rate of unemployment. Interestingly, the bulk of these unemployed youth have moved to the city in search of job opportunities. A further 500,000 youths are channelled to the labour market as they either graduate from colleges or complete the form four course.
It is this, therefore, that both the national and county governments need to urgently strengthen and scale up youth projects that target quality skill developments and basically, job creation for the jobless youths.
Young women and men are among the major driving change that each society can thrive in. However, if the trend continues this way, more riots and protests like the ones witnessed in Kibera slums on Tuesday will continue thriving in various estates owing to the plenty of time that idle youths have at their disposal.
Viable economic projects will keep the youths busy and more right minded which, will in turn, encourage them be responsible citizens.
