[Photo: Facebook/Daily Tech]Former Kamenu MCA Elizabeth Hussein has asked the government to revoke all licences to agents taking Kenyans to work in the Middle East. This follows a grainy video circulating on social media showing a man being clobbered mercilessly by three men with his legs, hands and mouth tied. He is also stabbed in the back severally. The authenticity of the video can, however, not be verified. However, Hussein says that the video could be genuine if past experiences are anything to go by where some Kenyans have even been returned home dead. The MCA who served Kamenu for over 25 years, says the revocation should be in place until all necessary legislation to guide the exercise are put in place."We have seen very worrying statistics before that showed that Kenyans had either been murdered in these Middle East countries or were working under very deplorable conditions. The government had initially banned these agencies to put on a legislation to guide these travels, but it seems they have relaxed the measures that were put in place," Hussein said on Wednesday evening via phone interview. She further asked the government to investigate the incidence and others that have been reported before and bring the culprits to book saying that 'modern slavery' has no space in today's civilized world. This is as she called for stern actions to be taken against the agencies whose clients go to mistreat Kenyans when they finally fly to those countries."The agencies should know the background of their Arab clients before they can handover any Kenyan to them. Unfortunately, most of them are only interested with money and once the business deal is closed they don't care to follow up on the Kenyans they 'sell' to Middle East," she added. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kiambu that you want Hivisasa to cover?
