Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto on Tuesday said that Rhoda Health Centre in Nakuru town West sub-county would be upgraded to the status of sub-county hospital.

Addressing the residents of Rhoda after an official tour to the health centre, Ruto said that the health facility would get a facelift to enable more patients to seek medical service.

He said that the health facility upon upgrading would serve patients from Kapkures, Ngata, Shababu and surrounding wards.

“The county government has earmarked cash to upgrade the health facility into sub-county hospital and equip it to offer advanced health services like treatment of diabetes and cancer,” said Ruto.

He said the facility would require a large waiting room, renovation of maternity block and modern laboratory to offer specialized services like ultrasound.

“We want the residents and patients to access better health services. We will deliver the growth of quality, accessible and affordable health services,” said Ruto.

Ruto said that health is a social right as envisaged in the constitution and the county government has responsibility to deliver better services to the residents.

He further said that the devolution has taken health services closer to the residents and transformed the health sector in the wider Rhoda ward.

He however admitted that the devolved health services are struggling to provide effective and adequate healthcare.
