Kenyans, a majority of them rhumba fans, continue to mourn the late musician, Papa Wemba who died on Saturday after stage collapse during a concert in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

He was 66.

Wemba whose real name is Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba, started his singing career at a young age where he participated in religious choirs.

The famous Congolese musician who was known as the father of rhumba music, is remembered for improving rhumba music and making it one of the popular genres in Africa. 

His songs such as Show Me the Way, Yolele, L’Esclave and Le Voyageurs, have been great internationally.

He held several shows shows in Kenya during his career with the latest one being in August 2014. 

Among those who mourned the musician are Congolese President Joseph Kabila, and the his Culture minister, Bedouin who said Wemba’s death was not only a blow to Congo but to Africa continent at large.
