A section of parents from Riakworo village have raised the concern over the admission of students to a nearby community secondary school.
Led by Mr Abel Naphtali on Monday, the parents accused the management of Riakworo secondary school for allegedly kicking out some of the students from the locality over the allegations of non-performance.
They threatened to paralyze operations when schools resume in September over alleged discrimination of the local students whom the construction of the institution was initially meant to benefit.
“No one is fighting quality education but at the same time our children have a right to education. This is a community secondary school and therefore it’s unfair that some of our children are chased out of the institution because they are not performing. The institution management must know that we own the school,” he said.
According to parents, the management has discontinued local students from the community arguing that it is implementing a policy aimed at reducing the number of students to enable school to compete with other schools.
“They should not implement the draconian policy in that manner. Performance improves with time and not something that is instant. I call upon the administration to be lenient enough,” he said.
School Deputy Principal Mr Nyabuti Stephen termed the allegations as ‘baseless’ but vowed to continue advocating for good performance.
