An administration assistant chief from Riamoni location has constituted a group that will see young people join institutions of higher learning as a way of increasing awareness in the society.
Speaking on Monday at Ritibo primary school, Mr Sambu Bosire said the group, dubbed 'Education for Light' will aim at contributing towards giving bright children a chance to pursue their higher education in different institutions.
According to him, the move was necessitated by rising number of bright children in the region who could not afford raise funds towards their education.
“Education is the pillar of the society and whenever we have children who cannot pursue their dreams because of limited resources, it really hurts. There are so many ways that we can do this and I have started the group so that well-wishers can help achieve the objective,” he said.
Mr Sambu called upon political leadership and community workers to chip in and assist the new group as a way of giving back to the society.
“As members of the community and the political leadership, it will be important for us to support such initiative as a way of increasing the knowledge awareness in the community,” he added.
The idea was welcomed by a renowned scholar Prof Ondigi Abaya who promised to marshal academicians to support the group for the sake of realising the objectives.
“I want to thank the assistant chief for this great initiative. As members of the academic fraternity, we support the initiative and he must therefore count for our support,” he said.
