A group of elderly people from Riamoni location in Kitutu Masaba now want the government to sack area chief for allegedly collaborating with the officials to defraud them their monthly earning from the government.
Speaking at a funeral ceremony in the region on Tuesday, the elders publicly rebuked Francis Rasugu and called for an immediate and urgent action against him from the government.
They accused the chief of tempering with the list of genuine beneficiaries by introducing ghost names hence making a few of them fail to get their monthly upkeep support from the government.
“I am tired of the issue and I want to make the chief know that he is a criminal. He should be defending the weak in the society but has taken the privilege to intimidate us. That is why we want the government to sack him,” said Mzee Okebiro Bonyi.
“The government knows our exact number and therefore it is impossible for some of us to miss out the benefits. He has tempered with the original list of beneficiaries and we want to tell him that there is enough evidence to have him out,” added Evans Nyariki.
However, Rasugu who listened to the elderly people in disbelief avoided discussing the issue in the public but promised to hold a crisis meeting to discuss the claims.
“I have nothing to say regarding the allegations by these elders. I am there to defend them and I want to ask them to wait till I convene a meeting to discuss the issue. This isn’t a light issue to discuss on public,” he said.
