Residents of Riat area in Kisumu County are calling on area bodaboda operators to stop using siren-like horns.

According to the locals the siren-like horns sometimes cause panic among them saying that some operators use them even during odd hours.

“The sirens are used even at midnight when we are asleep. When one hears such a thing you panic wondering what is happening out there because we all know that sirens mean danger,” said Caren Opanga a resident of Riat.

A spot check in he area on Friday morning revealed that most operators were using sirens for horns indiscriminately.

“We are calling on the relevant authorities to come in and curb this menace. Sirens should be used by emergency service providers. As it stands, one will think that the sirens have replaced horns,” said Catherine Kimei.

However, speaking to this writer on Friday morning, some of the operators said that it was time the locals stopped complaining and embraced change.

“Technology in every field is changing on a daily basis and we are just implementing the changes in our business,” said Harisson Opondo, a bodaboda operator
