According to bodaboda riders, the suspect identified as Machuki, stole the money when he ferried the passenger on his motorbike on Friday from Keroka to Mobamba.

It is alleged that the passenger realized his money was missing after he reached home and returned back to report the matter to the area boda boda officials who launched a search for the suspect.

“The rider could be a past tense by now because other riders were annoyed because he is tainting the name of other riders who depend on the bodaboda business to feed their families. As riders’ officials we don’t condone theft,” said David Babu, area bodaboda chairman.

Babu said Machuki was left to walk free after he admitted stealing the money and refunded back to the owner.

“We agreed to suspend him from operating in the area and anyone who will be found giving him his or her motorbike will be dealt with accordingly,” he added.
