Embattled former Vice president of South Sudan Dr.Riek Machar has urged Kenya authorities not to deport his family back to the war-torn nation.
According to Machar, his family members are innocent because they have no involvement in the current South Sudan conflict.
Machar who is currently in South Africa for called on Kenyan lawmakers to listen to his version of the story before condemning his family.
"Yes, I have a family who live in a rented house and are struggling to pay the rent because I am broke in that sense. They could also be declared refugees. I do not know how they could act as lawmakers in Parliament to target a family which has no involvement in the current conflict,"said Machar.
On owning property in Kenya, the rebel leader denied that he does not have a home in Kenya or bank account.
"First of all, I don't have assets in Kenya. I own nothing, I don't have any bank account in Kenya, or anywhere in the world other than in South Sudan," Machar added.
Last week, a group of Kenyan MPs led by Asman Kamama said they would table a motion in parliament to freeze Machar's assets, bank accounts and deport his family back to Juba, sighting he is not committed to the peace process aimed at ending military conflict between his forces and those loyal to President Salva Kiir.
