This comes amid talks of negotiated democracy in the region, with some seats set to go to some regions as earlier agreed.

However, the elders say it is the democratic right of every individual to elect whomever they think will deliver their promises.

This negotiated democracy was meant to ensure there is no division in the region, which is mainly occupied by the Nandi and Keiyo.

The governors’ slot was set aside for Eldoret North, the senator’s for Eldoret East and Woman representative for Eldoret South.

The residents have however rejected the sharing, forcing the elders to reconsider their next move.

According to Kalenjin Council of Elders AlexMursi, who spoke to The Standard, it was wrong to divide the locals on basis of sharing power.

“Jackson Mandago and Zedekiah Kiprotich (Buzeki) are both our sons. We are one community and they have a right to seek votes irrespective of their sub-tribes because they are seeking leadership in cosmopolitan areas,” he said.

This will be a blow to the region’s top leadership, with this likely to lead to more division in the region.
