Residents of Gatunguru sub location within Gituamba ward have been cautioned against consuming un-inspected cow meat sold by careless butcher men.
Livestock disease and control director in Gituamba ward Danson Mugo while leading a vaccination exercise against Rift Valley Fever said residents cannot afford to lose their lives for consuming of bad meat.
“I am cautioning the residents not to consume any uninspected meat. Use the registered livestock officers to inspect your meat before you consume to avoid related diseases and possible deaths. Consumption of meat from the rabbits could be detrimental to human health,” he said.
Mugo noted that the vaccination process against rift valley fever is targeting 2,000 domestic animals in Gituamba ward and it is free. The exercise iss funded by the county government after a reported case of rift valley fever in Gatunguru.
“We have 12 officers who we have authorised to monitor the vaccination process. The county government does not compromise with the health of domestic animals and this triggered immediate release of one million from the county kitty to facilitate the exercise which will continue until Friday this week,” he assured residents.
Rift Valley fever is an acute, fever-causing viral disease most commonly observed in domesticated animals and can infect and cause illness in humans.
