Rift Valley MPs have sought to give NTSA and the government a solution to the niggling issue of road accidents on the Nakuru-Eldoret route.

The MPs have told the government to extend the SGR railway to Malaba border through Eldoret, as a way of reducing time on the road and the many accidents.

The MPs say the number of accidents will reduce in on the busy road, which has claimed lives of hundreds of Kenyans in the last month.

Led by Moiben MP Sila Tiren and Kapseret's Oscar Sudi, the leaders say this will be a long-term solution.

The two leaders spoke to a local daily on Wednesday, where hundreds of passengers were stranded after NTSA’s night travel ban.

“This is a long-awaited project ... we are happy it will be done soon so we can decongest Eldoret town,”

The leaders lamented over the heavy traffic in the Eldoret town, which is caused by heavy tracks en route to Malaba and other Western areas.

The Nakuru-Eldoret highway has become a blackspot after recent accidents took away the lives of many Kenyans.

The accidents forced the NTSA to ban night traveling of PSVs, which has caused delays especially for many students who were returning to school from Tuesday.
