Speaking in Nakuru in his office on Tuesday, Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo has said that most of the communal clashes experienced in the region has been largely due to negative influence from politicians who should be on the frontline in guiding citizens.

"A section of political leaders in this region stir up these clashes for their personal gains rather than help in peace keeping. We will not tolerate these incidences and that is why we are calling upon political leaders in the North Rift region to help us in restoring peace and integration among communities in these areas," Musiambo stated.

The regional coordinator also confirmed that there is an ongoing dialogue by political leaders, administration officers and other local leaders on peace building initiatives to the North Rift region with other more yet to come.

"Among the places we are planning to tour to hold meetings are Trans-Mara and Kuria where we will have a big meeting with deputy county commissioners and other leaders to ensure citizens in that region and other regions in the North Rift are safe. All these are meant to protect life and property of Kenyans for sustainable peace for development," Musiambo added.

Among the areas he pointed out to have be affected by such clashes are Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans-Mara and Kuria boarder, Turkana, Samburu and Baringo regions.
