Politicians from the Rift Valley region have been asked to spearhead unity campaigns and help bring locals together.
Addressing the press at Nakuru town on Sunday, Rift Valley Council of Elders Chairman Gilbert Kabage said that most communities in the region are living in fear of each other.
The elder said that Nakuru was among the hard hit regions during the 2007/2008 post poll chaos that rocked the country following the disputed presidential results.
Kabage said that politicians must put aside their pride and spearhead pace campaigns to curb repeat of the same in the future.
“Political leaders should know that this country belongs to all Kenyans, they should therefore take the initiative to preach peace,” he said.
Kabage intimated that unity of all Kenyans must be guided and spearhead adding that it is time for political leaders to know that Kenyans are the people who matter and not them.
The elder said that development would not be realized in the region if residents continue to live in fear of each other.
Kabage on the same note called on the national government to organize campaigns that will see Kenyans sensitized on the need of embracing unity.
He further urged the county government from the Rift Valley to concentrate on delivering services to the people.
He said that devolution should be used to benefit the residents and not politicians as it has been.
Kabage urged residents to remain united and demand services from the leaders they elected to office.
