The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has condemned an incident where police in Booker, Mumias in Kakamega County allegedly stormed residential homes and beat up residents in search for firearms stolen by thugs from a local police post, on Tuesday night.
It is believed seven G3 rifles and 180 bullets were stolen during the incident, with thugs injuring an officer who was on duty.
KNCHR vice chairperson George Morara said the police brutalised innocent residents, and infringed on the Constitutional human rights.
He noted the Commission had learned that women and men were the greatly injured.
He said they were inflicted physical bodily harm, with blunt objects, as the officers destroyed property during the night raid.
Addressing the press, Friday, Morara called on the Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet, to take quick action against the officers who raided the homes, and ensure security is enhanced across Mumias region.
He further indicated the Commission will also launch investigations into the incident, to ensure officers who brutalised the victims, are legally punished.
