Garissa County resident who have encroached into the government land have been asked to move out or they would be forcibly evicted.
Lands executive Mohamed Shale said Garissa residents who have encroached on ring road land in the town have been given two weeks to vacate.
Speaking to the press in Garissa on Monday, Mr Shale warned that the government will forcefully evict them and tear down any building encroaching on the land.
Mr Shale further ordered the residents who have put up illegal structures on the land to pull them down.
The lands executive said the county government has developed a plan for the land and would allocate plots afresh to members of the public who genuinely need them.
“We are issuing a notice to people who have encroached on the ring road land in the town that they have two weeks to vacate or they will be forcibly evicted.”
“Some people have grabbed land and are sub-dividing it. It is illegal. Any structure on the ring road is illegal. People claiming to own that land must know it belongs to the government,” he said.
Mr Shale said the county government plans to allocate over 10,000 parcels in the next six months.
“We have application forms and those in need of land. A committee will determine the criteria for application. It will be transparent. Nobody will be shortchanged,” he added.
