The team that jetted into the country on Thursday night to a low-key reception said there were more able bodied members that traveled to Rio that didn't understand the needs of the athletes.

National Council of Persons with Disabilities chairman David Ole Sankok alleged that the athletes were neglected by the officials who accompanied them to Rio, citing massive misuse of funds.

“Some officials who went there were just on holiday. They never did anything related to what took them there, meaning it was a holiday," he told reporters on Thursday night at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Others were given per diem which was supposed to cater for their accommodation and food in Rio, but they were still paid more money for the same. The Government does not pay for holidays and we are insisting the officials must return the money,” he added.

He cited a case where some officials stayed for only five days but have been paid allowances for twenty one days, slamming the Media Liaison Officer for not highlighting their woes.

The team consisted of nine athletes but garnered six medals in total.
