The county government of Kiambu has assured residents of Rironi in Limuru, who will be affected by the upgrading of Rironi-Kabete Road, that they will be fully compensated.

Limuru Central administrator, Patrick Kiongo said that the compensation committee has already been constituted and is scheduled to conduct a final survey of the land and draft a report which will include how much each person is getting.

“The compensation committee will draft a report indicating the number of people whose land will be acquired. The report will also give recommendations on compensation terms which should be in line with the current market value of land,’’ said Kiongo.

The administrator spoke on Wednesday while addressing residents who had camped outside his office demanding that he addresses the issue saying that they had not received any official communication regarding compensation.

Mungai Karanja, one of the people whose land will be compulsorily acquired to allow for the upgrade and expansion of the road said that the county government must reach an agreement with the affected people even before settling on the terms of payment.

“The county government has to involve us in the whole process so that the process can be transparent. We do not want to experiences cases where ghost payments are made,” said Karanja

The administrator said that the county government will finance re-carpeting of the tarmac and construction of a service lane at a cost of 100 million.

He said that the service lane will reduce accidents especially pedestrians being knocked down by speeding vehicles.
