The pharmaceuticals association has raised the red flag over the mushrooming of illegal pharmacies which it notes are being run by unqualified personnel.
The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association organisation’s organising secretary Amos Kendagor at the same time urged the public to make use a toll free SMS code that has been generated by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and is always displayed in front of the pharmacies to ascertain if they are genuine.
According to KNA, Kendagor said the pharmarcies may sell counterfeit medicines as well as administer wrong doses to unsuspecting members of the public thereby endangering their lives.
On his part, South Rift region association chairman, Gideon Koech asked the county government to ensure that all medicines are handled by qualified personnel.
The two spoke during the 13th annual scientific conference in Kericho.
