The construction of a feeder road connecting Ritibo village and Mosobeti market has been stopped temporarily by the area MCA to allow negotiations between the locals and the county government of Nyamira.
This comes a day after angry residents demonstrated the action, terming it improper since the feeder road is not in the official map of the government and its construction would see many people lose their farm products.
Responding to the cry on Thursday, ward representative Ken Atuti ordered for the immediate halt of the project initiated by the county government of Nyamira to allow further consultations.
“I have received numerous complaints to the effect and I have ordered the contractors to halt the process for us to give dialogue a chance. It is worth remembering that the feeder road has been there for ages but we can’t ignore their calls,” he said.
“They demonstrated, claiming that the road wasn’t in the map of the government but I understand that they fear that their farm products will be destroyed,” he said.
Mr Atuti said his office will constitute a committee that will look into the claims and make recommendations within the next two weeks for an appropriate action to be taken.
“I will constitute a committee of experts and locals who would look into the concerns and make viable recommendations. We want the truth to be known without necessarily infringing someone’s rights knowingly or unknowingly,” he said.
