Students from Nyamira County have been urged to enrol in the schools of journalism due to the profession’s growing influence in the world.
Speaking on Monday at Ritibo primary school during a motivational speech hosted by the institution’s head, Peter Monubi, Egesa FM presenter Manufestus Nyakundi said many students from the region overlooked journalism in favour of education.
He volunteered to support students who will be enrolling to study the course in the institutions of higher learning in future besides mentoring them due to his vast experience.
“I am not impressed with the way our children are running away from this noble profession. Journalism is a very instrumental course and it’s sad that it’s only me from the entire location who specialised in media,” he said.
“I would like to urge parents to challenge their children to try the luck because I am ready to support those who are willing to join the profession,” Nyakundi said.
The former KBC presenter at the then Kisumu headquarters, now with the Royal Media Services, challenged journalists to report transparently, fairly and objectively as enshrined in the principles of journalism ethics.
“I want to encourage my colleagues to ensure they report accurately and transparently. Journalistic principles are very essential and therefore we have to abide by them. We must be very clean because we are trusted with the society,” he said.
