It was a rare show of unity when three presidential candidates convened on Wednesday to attack their rivals; President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) flag-bearer Raila Odinga for boycotting the much awaited Presidential Debate.
The three; Ekuru Aukot of Thirdway Alliance and two independents Josphat Kavinya and Prof Michael Wainaina lashed out at Uhuru and Raila for what they termed as “an act of cowardice” after their teams announced that the candidates have pulled of the debate.
“President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have shown cowardice in the move to opt out. Let them come and argue with us on ideas,” said Aukot.
The hopefuls in the 2017 race to State House said they are saddened by the move, insisting that the debate was a good platform for all of them to engage Kenyans on various issues.
The first presidential debate is slated for July 10 while the final debate will be held on July 24.
Wainaina and Aukot further accused the government of sabotaging their campaigns by not providing them with enough security.
"We have not been accorded the security detail the constitution demands. Inspector of Police, Joseph Boinnet should not be discriminative in dispatching security officers,” said Wainaina.
