Kiambu Roads and Infrastructure CeC Njeri Gatabaki has revealed that the county government has plans to expand Chania Bridge near Blue Post hotel.
The project which has been proposed by the Thika traders will help to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Gatabaki said that Chania Bridge will be expanded to dual carriage hence reducing traffic and improving the county economy.
Gatabaki further revealed that plans are underway to fence the river since there has been numerous cases of people drowning in the river.
Gatabaki who was speaking on Tuesday in Thika town during the traders and government business forum urged the residents to keep away from the river.
She called on the Thika Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru to deploy officers in the area to tame drowning cases.
She pointed out that most people who drown in the river are those under influence of alcohol.
