Thika west traffic commandant, Benjamin Kiprono, has revealed that the number of road accidents in Kenya have reduced by 16 percent.
According to Kiprono this is an improvement compared to last year March where road accident cases were on the rise.
Speaking on Thursday in his office Kiprono said the statistics, released by the government, were realised due to efforts carried out by different stakeholders in the sector.
According to Kiprono, road accidents are expected to decrease once speed guns are introduced in the roads.
“We are optimistic that road accidents will decrease with the introduction of speed guns; speed guns is used to detect the speed motorists are driving on,” notes Kiprono.
The speed guns has already been distributed to all traffic officers in the country and they are expected to reduce the number of road accidents by 50 percent.
Kiprono hailed his officers for taming reckless drives in Thika super highway.
He lauded the introduction of speed governors which has played a key role in reduction of road accident cases.
“Speed governors are the key to the reduction of deaths in our country,” said Kiprono.
The traffic boss further commended Mututho law which warns drivers against drinking and driving.
