A middle aged man whose legs were incapacitated was in a Thika Law Court on Thursday in search of justice after a road accident that devastated his life.
Pius Kariba, 35 appeared before the Resident Magistrate Esther W. Mburu and expounded on the event he said changed his life forever.
According to him, the accident that occurred in November 21 2009 in Kisii Estate, Makongeni in Kiambu County left him with an amputated leg. This was after the Matatu he was travelling in lost control and rolled severally.
He added that an oncoming private saloon car (KAG 168D) hit the Nissan (KBB 866A) he was in causing the Nissan’s front tyre to burst hence making the driver to loose control.
Ruth Njeri, Witness and also the accident victim, told the Court that the owner of the saloon car wanted to divert from the highway without indicating the motive causing the accident.
Peter Ndung'u who is a doctor at Thika Hospital and also a witness in the suit valiantly affirmed that indeed Kariba had incurred the stated injuries. He also added that the victim was in and out of hospital for two years incurring uncompensated expenses.
Kariba also told the Court how his life had become a mess after the accident including being fired from his work place as a teacher in one of the private schools in the area after lingering in hospitals for too long.
He pleaded with the Court to look into his case as he required compensation for the trauma, the job lost and the injuries. His case will be mentioned in April 29 this year.
