Thika west Traffic Commandant Benjamin Kiprono has revealed that the number of accidents this festive season has reduced by 14 percent, which is an improvement compared to previous years.
The traffic boss said that the survey, which was carried out by the national government indicates a decrease in road deaths in the country, thanks to the vigilant traffic commandants in the sub-counties.
According to Kiprono, plans are underway to equip the traffic officers with speed guns, which will be used to detect the speed at which a motorist drive, which he notes will greatly reduce unnecessary accidents due to over speeding.
“The government has plans to equip us with speed guns to further tame over speeding drivers who at long run cause fatal deaths that can be avoided,” said Kiprono.
The speed guns will be distributed to all traffic officers not only in Thika, but the entire country by the end of year 2015 to reduce the accidents by approximately up to 50 percent.
Kiprono hailed his officers for greatly contributing in reducing road accidents and taming wreck less drivers along Thika super highway.
He lauded the re-introduction of speed governors, which was implemented and enforced by the government, believing it bore fruits.
“Speed governors are the key to the reduction of deaths this festive season and it has greatly workded,” he explained.
