The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has indefinitely suspended licenses for all vehicles belonging to three Public Service Vehicle companies over noncompliance to licencing requirements.
Indimanje Sacco, Tahir Sheikh Said (TSS) Transporters Ltd and Rengcom Communications Ltd's licences were suspended on Thursday with members of the public warned against using vehicles belonging to the three.
NTSA in a press statement signed by Director General Francis Meja on March 24 argued that the licence cancellation was informed by reports of fatal road accidents caused by vehicles belonging to the three companies.
"Reports from our Vehicle Inspection Unit indicate that the accidents were caused by failure of the listed operators to comply with the provisions of the licenses issued to them," the one-page statement read.
"The Authority has therefore suspended the licenses of the operators indefinitely and with immediate effect from the date of this notice."
Two of the companies, TSS and Rengcom Communications were however allowed to operate only during the day.
"This suspension will only be lifted after the operators show evidence that they have fully complied with the licensing requirements as provided in Gazette Notice number 23 of 2014," the statement further said.
"Members of the public are therefore advised not to board vehicles belonging to these operators until the suspensions are lifted. The Traffic Department is requested to implement this decision."
NTSA also cautioned vehicle owners against wreckless driving during this Easter period.
"We have deployed adequate officers who will be monitoring compliance with safety laws and help in apprehending traffic offenders'" NTSA said.
