Uasin Gishu Roads minister Gideon Birir on Tuesday said the newly acquired road construction machines will help improve infrastructure in the county thus easing transport.

The minister said the multimillion road construction machines that were commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday will help in grading and construction of roads in Eldoret town and the county.

“The machines cost Sh625 million which is a milestone in the improvement of infrastructure in the county,” he said in his office.

He said the equipment will do away with the costs the county has been incurring to hire machines from other counties, which according to him, was very expensive, making it hard for the devolved unit to construct roads.

He said with the road construction machines; Uasin Gishu residents should be ready for a better road network that will ensure fast transportation of farm produce to market places at ease.

“I urge Uasin Gishu residents to take care of the machines since it is their property because they were bought using taxpayers’ money,” he said.
